Clerkenwell, BBC America ink pact
LONDON -- U.K. shingle Clerkenwell Films would be to develop content for BBC America because the cable internet beefs up original production. The non-exclusive deal involves funding potential projects over what BBC America's owner, BBC Worldwide, indicated was an 18-month period. BBC Worldwide stated the initiative is targeted at getting pregnant series which will resonate with BBC America's audience. Furthermore, Worldwide will seek co-production partners for commissioned shows. BBC America's first original scripted show -- period crime saga "Copper" from Cineflix Galleries -- was introduced in June.BBC America's gm Perry Simon stated: "Getting into original production is really a large step for BBC America, and something that people hope may bring interesting new possibilities for U.K. indies."To stick out within this greatly competitive market we want use of probably the most creative talents and original shows on the planet.Inch Clerkenwell is an expert in drama, and loved a U.K. hit with "Misfits," that was commissioned for youth-skewed web E4, and won a BAFTA for the best drama series. The show concentrates on several teen culprits who gain super forces carrying out a freak electrical storm.There's been lots of speculation regarding a U.S. version of "Misfits," including reviews that ABC is near to eco-friendly lighting a U.S. adaptation. Clerkenwell's Boss Murray Ferguson added: "Getting the opportunity to kick-start the introduction of shows that we understand in the start are specific in a global audience is a very invigorating prospect."
